Deer Lake Motel is located in the town of
Deer Lake. The
population of Deer Lake is approximately 4000 people. The town is a
service centre for communities in the immediate area as well as
communities on the Northern Peninsula and the White Bay area. Included
in the town are grocery stores, gas stations, laundromat services and
more.
Deer Lake Airport is just 5 minutes from Deer Lake Motel.
Whether you are flying in on a business trip, a tourist visiting the
province, a hunter on your way to a hunting trip or just need a place
to stay overnight, take the shuttle bus from Deer Lake Airport to Deer
Lake Motel.
Adjacent to the town of Deer Lake is the Humber River. The river has
several locations for Salmon and Trout Fishing. Enjoy several of
the sandy beaches along the river, including Deer Lake's own beach,
located in Deer Lake Municipal Park. Canoeing and kayaking is
yours to enjoy on the river.
Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex is located in Deer Lake. Facilities
at the Complex include a ice hockey rink, an indoor swimming pool and
a 6 lane bowling alley.
Deer Lake is home to Newfoundland Insectarium. Only two such
facilities exists in Eastern Canada. At the Insectarium see live
tarantulas, giant cockroaches, tropical leaf insects, a hive of 20,000
honeybees and a butterfly pavalion.
Located within town is the Roy Whelan Heritage Museum. This museum
will give you a glimpse of a 19th century logging town. At the museum
exhibits are displayed displaying the life and trials of Deer Lake's
early settlers.
Take a trip to Sir Richard Squires Park and enjoy the beauty of the
ride and the Big Falls Salmon River. Be on the lookout for
moose, caribou, black bear, ospreys or hawks.
Deer Lake is just 20 minutes from the entrance to Gros Morne National
Park. The Park represents a 1805 km sample
of Newfoundland's western highlands and coastal lowlands - a landscape
of mountains, fjords, valleys, deep glacial lakes, coastal bogs, and
wave carved cliffs.
